Chapter Nine
âIâm not going to ask you in,â Eve lingered outside of her door.
âI donât expect you to.â
âGrace said she wouldnât be back until late. Still ...â
âEve, I didnât walk you up here with the hopes of more.â
She placed her hands on his chest. âMaybe I want there to be more. Maybe, just a little.â
She kissed him.
It was the kind of kiss like when youâve really wanted chocolate cake, the really decadent kind, but youâve been oh-so-good and not had dessert in forever, and then youâre at your favorite restaurant that makes the best chocolate cake in the entire world, and you order the smallest, low-calorie meal so you can have the chocolate cake for dessert, and you pop that first bite into your mouth and almost die ...
She seriously thought she was going to die.
Her mind spun like a wheel.
Do it.
Do it.
Just do it already.
Youâre always so good.
You deserve it.
Live it up.
Youâre on holiday.
You have separate bedrooms with an entire living-space between you.
You could be quiet.
You could have fun.
Consider it a birthday present to yourself ...
She whimpered as he nibbled on her ear.
She couldnât take it anymore.
She reached down and grabbed his hand. âCome inside.â
As she unlocked the door, he took a step back. âHonestly, Eve, I donât want you to have regrets about this later.â
She turned and faced him, letting the door close once again. âThank you for that. I have no idea what this is between us or why it happened. I just know I havenât felt like this in a very long time. And maybe itâs because itâs my birthday, or itâs Christmas, or Iâm on vacation. Whatever it is, I want this. I do. More than ever. I wonât have regrets. Youâre all Iâve been thinking of since this afternoon.â
One look at his face told her everything she needed to know. He was a good man, she could feel it in her gut. And no matter what happened after they boarded planes and went their separate ways, she wanted him. It was as simple as that.
âAnd we do have two separate bedrooms.â She tipped her head to the left. âIâm on this side, and Grace is on the other. What about you? Are you okay with this?â
He nodded as he snaked an arm around her waist, kissing her forehead. âI am. Iâve been thinking about you nonstop too. I havenât been with anyone in a very long time. My wife and I ... letâs just say it was a long time. And I havenât had the energy to look for anything else, not with anyone. There was work. My mom. Life.â
âI get it.â She kissed his lips. âDo you have anything? A condom?â
He stepped back again, shaking his head. âNo. I didnât think. I didnât plan.â
She kissed him again. âLucky for you, my side of the suite came equipped with a goodie basket. And it had three.â
He laughed as she raised her eyebrows up and down. âItâs definitely my lucky day.â
She linked fingers with his, opened up the door, and pulled him inside.
